Hawaii Dietetic Association (HDA) members are leaders on the forefront of the food and nutrition movement in Hawai`i.

Goals and Strategies
GOAL 1:
Build an aligned, engaged, and diverse membership.
STRATEGY 1: Provide at least four events for members to be involved in both social and CEU events.
§ Responsible: Public Relations and Council on Professional Issues (CPI) Committee.
§ Resources Needed: Money, time, and volunteers.
§ Target Completion Date: May 2009 and annually thereafter.
STRATEGY 2: Increase membership voting by 10% by providing incentives for members to vote.
§ Responsible: BOD, Nominating Committee, and HDA Webmaster.
§ Resources Needed: HDA Listserv, website, and money.
§ Target Completion Date: May 2008 and annually thereafter.
STRATEGY 3: Increase student membership by 5% per year by providing at least two outreach activities.
§ Responsible: Public Relations, UH Student Representative(s), Nominating Committee, and CPI Committee.
§ Resources Needed: Money and volunteers.
§ Target Completion Date: May 2008 and annually thereafter.
STRATEGY 4: Plan and implement a mentorship program to students and new dietitians.
§ Responsible: Public Relations, Secretary, UH Student Representative(s), and Immediate Past President.
§ Resources Needed: Time, ADA DMIS list, volunteers, and money.
§ Target Completion Date: December 2008.
STRATEGY 5: Showcase HDA activities, opportunities and member involvement through systematic communication to HDA members.
§ Responsible: President, PR, PPC Chair, Webmaster and other BOD members as appropriate.
§ Resources needed: Time, HDA email list, website volunteers, and money.
§ Target Completion Date: Ongoing.
GOAL 2:
RD licensure in Hawaii will be implemented and available for all dietitians.
STRATEGY 1: Increase visibility of HDA through participating in and supporting key food, nutrition and health initiatives state-wide and through collaborating with key stakeholders.
§ Responsible: President, Public Policy Committee, Lobbyist, all other BOD and HDA members.
§ Resources Needed: Time, money, and volunteers (as needed).
§ Target Completion Date: May 2012.
STRATEGY 2: Monitor and identify key nutrition related legislation and initiatives in the state and provide input for at least one topic per year.
§ Responsible: State Policy Representative, Public Policy Committee, and Hawaii ADA Delegate.
§ Resources Needed: Lobbyist, HDA listserv, website, money, and time.
§ Target Completion Date: January 2008 and ongoing.
STRATEGY 3: Meet regularly with PPC and Lobbyist to maintain momentum in the movement towards licensure and increased recognition of our dietitian members in the state of Hawai`i.
§ Responsible: Public Policy Committee, Lobbyist, all other BOD and HDA members.
§ Resources Needed: Time, money, and volunteers (as needed).
§ Target Completion Date: May 2012.
GOAL 3:
Use PR, media services and electronic technology to increase public awareness of the RD/DTR (HDA) and to promote public access to nutrition services and information.
STRATEGY 1: Launch new HDA website and update member communication services according to needs.
§ Responsible: HDA Webmaster.
§ Resources Needed: Money, website committee and/or volunteers, and time.
§ Target Completion Date: New website achieved November 2007. Service updates will occur as appropriate.
STRATEGY 2: Update worksite information and list of current members who provide services to the general public and/or other health professionals on the website.
§ Responsible: HDA Webmaster.
§ Resources Needed: HDA listserv, website, and ADA Find a Dietitian.
§ Target Completion Date: May 2008. Regularity or ongoing updates to be determined later.
STRATEGY 3: Assess current environment and educate membership regarding reimbursement for RD services (e.g., Medicare and Medicaid MNT reimbursements).
§ Responsible: Reimbursement Representative, Public Policy Committee, and Public Relations.
§ Resources: HDA listserv, HDA website, ADA Governance and Advocacy (MNT).
§ Target Completion Date: Ongoing.
STRATEGY 4: Provide the media (print, radio, and TV) with ideas for stories that use RDs as the expert being interviewed and/or publicize HDA’s position on various nutrition-related legislation.
§ Responsible: PR, PPC, and other HDA members.
§ Resources: HDA website, ADA press releases, and ADA action alerts.
§ Target date: Ongoing.
