                                    Find a Dietitian

                                    A registered dietitian (RD) is a nutrition professional with the education and special training to help you translate scientific information into healthy food choices.

                                    To find a dietitian in Hawaii or any other state, use the search tool available from the American Dietetic Association. You can search by location and/or area of expertise.  Note that members listed are paid on a fee-for-service basis. 

                                    Go to ADA's EatRight site and click the "Find a Registered Dietitian" box in the top right corner. 

                                    Certain Hawaii health care facilities, listed below, also offer the expertise of registered dietitians. Call for more details.

                                    OAHU SITES:
                                    Castle Medical Center
                                    Registered Dietitians provide medical nutrition therapy and nutrition counseling tailored to meet individual goals.  Diabetes management, individualized weight loss, and a meal replacement program are some of the services offered.  Insurance coverage is available for some services.                                     To schedule an appointment, call the Wellness & Lifestyle Medicine Center at 263-5050. For information regarding the Surgical Weight Loss Institute, call 263-5176.

                                    Kahi Mohala Behavioral Hospital
                                    To receive Nutrition Therapy for disordered eating, call 671-8511 and ask to speak to the Registered Dietitian.

                                    Kaiser Permanente
                                    Kaiser Permanente members can ask their doctor for a referral to see a Registered Dietitian (RD).  Or call the Food and Nutrition Services Department to speak to an RD:  432-8650

                                    Non-Kaiser members can access www.kp.org for nutrition and health information. Many of the classes are open to the public.

                                    Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children
                                    Outpatient registered dietitians are available to provide medical nutrition therapy, specializing in Women and Pediatric Nutrition. They also take part in community wellness fairs and give nutrition-related presentations.  To schedule an appointment or request a referral form, call 983-8224, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm.

                                    Kapiolani Medical Center at Pali Momi
                                    Services as above; call 485-4371 for appointment or referral form.

                                    Kokua Kalihi Valley Health Center
                                    KKV offers Nutrition Services and Chronic Disease Management to include individual medical nutrition therapy; lifestyle classes for weight management; monthly group visit education (MD & RD team) for patients with diabetes and chronic kidney disease; and six-week group self-management programs in diabetes, arthritis and chronic disease.

                                    Current KKV patients may be referred to these services as part of their comprehensive medical care, at no additional cost.  There is a fee for services for non-KKV patients (must live within KKV's service area).  Call the Appointment and Information Line:  791-9443

                                    Queen's Medical Center
                                    To schedule an appointment for medical nutrition therapy, call 547-4823.

                                    To schedule an appointment with the Comprehensive Weight Management Program, call 537-7546.

                                    Straub Clinic & Hospital
                                    Outpatient registered dietitians (RDs) are available to provide medical nutrition therapy, take part in community wellness fairs and give nutrition-related presentations.  Straub RDs participate in the HMSA Diabetes Education Provider Network (MD referral required).  To schedule an appointment or request a referral form, call 522-4325, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm.

                                    Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center
                                    Outpatient dietitians provide medical nutrition therapy to address diabetes/kidney management, pediatric nutrition, weight control, and more; participate in teaching lifestyle programs/classes; and are available for wellness fairs and community talks.  To schedule an appointment or to get more information, call 697-3526.

                                    Wellness Center at John A. Burns School of Medicine
                                    To schedule an appointment for Medical Nutrition Therapy, or for group talks and workshops, call 692-0907.  Specializing in nutrition therapies related to oncology (cancer), digestive disorders, weight loss or gain, and optimizing health.

                                    BIG ISLAND SITES:
                                    Bay Clinic
                                    Bay Clinic members may ask their doctor for a referral to see a Registered Dietitian (RD). To speak to an RD, call 934-3204. Services provided in Hilo, Kea'au, Pahoa and Ka'u. Bay Clinic's Diabetes Self-Management Education Program, Warriors Against Diabetes, is located in all four clinic locations.  Quarterly diabetic awareness and education events are open to the public.  Visit bayclinic.org/service.diabetes.asp for calendar of events, or call 934-3246.

                                    North Hawaii Community Hospital
                                    To schedule an outpatient appointment for medical nutrition therapy, call 881-4856 or 881-4855.

                                    Kona Hospital

                                    West Hawaii Community Center
                                    To schedule an appointment for diabetes education or medical nutrition therapy, call 326-5629.

                                    KAUAI SITES:
                                    Wilcox Memorial Hospital
                                    Outpatient dietitians offer counseling under the HMSA Diabetes Education Provider Network (DEPN).  They also take fee-for-service patients.  To schedule an appointment, call 245-1166.

                                    Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital
                                    No outpatient nutrition counseling available; inquiries are referred to individual community Registered Dietitians.  
                                    Call 823-4152.

                                    MAUI SITES:
                                    Hui No Ke Ola Pono
                                    RD services include individual diet education and a free monthly diabetes support group.  Call 244-4647

                                    Kaiser Permanente
                                    Kaiser Permanente members can ask their doctor for a referral to see a Registered Dietitian (RD).  Or call the Food and Nutrition Services Department to speak to an RD:  243-6481.

                                    Non-Kaiser members can access www.kp.org for nutrition and health information.  Many of the classes are open to the public.

                                    Maui Medical Group Health Management Center
                                    Call 243-2327 for a nutrition counseling appointment with the registered dietitian.  Non-Maui Medical Group patients require a referral from an MD.
